Women’s Health Services
In addition to pelvic floor therapies, Flex offers professional evaluation and treatment for some of the special conditions affecting women. Our therapists have advanced training in the treatment of incontinence, pelvic pain, and musculoskeletal problems occurring during pregnancy and post-partum.
Pregnancy and Post-partum
Flex loves to help women transition through the perinatal period, supporting them from the first to the fourth trimesters. Our pelvic floor therapists provide compassionate care, guiding expectant mothers through abdominal and pelvic floor exercises tailored to their unique needs. With a deep understanding of the physical and emotional challenges of pregnancy, we address issues like back pain, hip discomfort, and other musculoskeletal complaints through soft tissue techniques, joint mobilizations, posture education, and proper exercise. We also offer specialized care to strengthen the pelvic floor and improve its coordination, which can help prevent or manage issues like urinary incontinence, prolapse, and pelvic pressure.
Around 35 weeks, we guide women in preparing their pelvic floor for labor, focusing on relaxation, breathwork, and techniques to reduce perineal trauma during delivery. Our therapists also offer guidance on optimizing positioning for labor and delivery. 6-8 weeks following birth, we offer postpartum care to promote healing, restore core strength, and address any lingering pelvic floor issues that may affect daily function or intimacy.
Osteoporosis
Low bone mass affects an estimated 44 million Americans – 80% of them are women. Regular weight-bearing and strengthening exercise can help to prevent and slow the progression of this disease. Our therapists can assist by evaluating and correcting posture and instructing in proper exercise.
Please see PELVIC FLOOR PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR EVERYONE for information on incontinence, bowel conditions, pelvic pain and coccydynia.
